Antique Remington-Beals 1st Model, Issue 4 Percussion Pocket Revolver, #479, .31 cal., 3'' octagonal barrel with dovetailed cone front and notched (topstrap) rear sights, marked ''F. Beals' Patent/June 24, '56 & May 26, '57'' on top flat; plain round 5-shot cylinder; solid frame is marked ''Manufactured by/Remington's/Ilion, N.Y.'' on topstrap, has distinctive outside pawl (rotates cylinder), central hammer, separate German-silver trigger guard, integral gripstraps, with one-piece smooth gutta percha grips. Mfg'd ca. 1857-58, with full-blued finish and case hardened hammer, in fewer than 5,000 qty. Condition is very good, the metal retaining no original finishes but a mostly smooth gunmetal gray patina, scattered very light discoloration, sharp edges and markings. Grips are smooth, unmarked and fit perfectly (marked ''1-4 / B'' in white paint on butt). Action is crisp, bore is clean showing overall mild etching and good rifling. Est.: $350-$500.
